ROOT (Teaching Plan)

Updated: Sep 29, 2018

A beautiful flower came beautiful to the eyes of men because of how it is well-rooted. A plant usually grows well when the roots are properly taken care of. Same thing with the performance of the school, if the root of what is being practiced is well done, it will be a beautiful school from the outside and the inside. What is behind the beauty of performance of Kidsville?

International Early Years Curriculum is the curriculum that Kidsville follows and practice. This curriculum uses themes to teach students different skills that cover affective, psychomotor, and cognitive. What is good about IEYC is its focus on enhancing and developing the life and self-help skills of the students. They do believe that exposing the child in a setting where they could fully develop their decision-making, critical thinking, and higher order thinking skills is the most effective way of raising and teaching a child. This is why this curriculum involves activities like free play in a sand pool area, play room area, and drama play room, and the LEGO class that would mean socialization and collaboration with their peers.

The teaching plan in Kidsville is planned out to be in a theme form. For example, in a month, the main topic would be about Transportation, and this will be discussed month-long that would be digging deeper on the uses, importance, and the purposes of the said transportation. This also includes the simulation of the real-setting activity. What is good in planning out lessons in this way is that it is specifically taught that would effectively be delivered to the students. This is one of the things that I find beautiful in this curriculum because they do not rush the lessons in order to just comply to what should be known by the students. They prioritize that the students will absorb and apply the lessons by giving more time in the instruction.

The lessons still includes subjects like Math, English, Phonics, Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, LEGO, and Drawing. All these subjects incorporates the theme for the month. This is also one of the highlights of this curriculum because all the subjects web the theme, it develops and supports more retention to the students. Some may find it to be overly delivered and focused yet as a teacher, I do believe that putting emphasis and weight in terms of using more time for the instruction and webbing the theme would be beneficial for the students.

Indeed, Kidsville had a great root which makes them bloom like a beautiful flower. Kidsville is not perfect but it is beautiful in structure and in practice.
